Synopsis

Product Description Dripping with suspense, this exciting new work takes the reader into an exploration of other worlds—the shadowy, edgy world of the shapeshifters. In a deceptively placid beginning to this book, young Darien Yost is living the most commonplace of lives, going about his business as most of us. In the space of an afternoon, his entire destiny is put in jeopardy. He loses consciousness suddenly and awakens disoriented after an unexplained episode. From that point forward, he is immersed in a reality he could never have imagined. Guided by opposing forces, Darien is taunted with increasingly strange and menacing incidents, the resolution of which will determine the outcome of his life and the successful fulfillment of his new abilities and powers. From the Publisher Darien Yost is a young man about to learn that people with power can rarely live a normal life. One afternoon, he loses consciousness for no apparent reason and wakes up disoriented. This seemingly random occurrence marks the first indication of his heritage and begins his immersion in a reality that he never imagined existed. During the next few days, his life becomes a race against time as he tries to fathom how his world is changing—and how he must survive. He found himself back in the clearing in the middle of the forest. The air was cold and a harsh wind bit his skin fiercely. Darien noticed he was wearing only a pair of shorts and his exposed skin was covered in gooseflesh. He shivered, wrapping his arms around himself. The wind seemed to pick up in intensity, howling through the branches. A large crack echoed through the crisp air as a tree limb crashed to the ground beside him. The storm clouds overhead were glowing in the light of the moon. The occasional bolt of heat lightning bathed the scene in a flash of white. Thunder crashed so hard that the air shook in response. Rain started to fall, and it felt like cold spears of ice. He stood up and ran towards the haunting tree line. As he stumbled towards the edge, the shadows seemed to come to life. They drifted across the grass towards him and rose up into various shapes. Animals were interspersed between men and women. They were pitch-black except for pinpricks of white light where the eyes should be. The bodies shimmered in the faint light and their borders were indistinct . . .
