Synopsis

When Earth died the specially picked and trained complement of the spaceship New World was annihilated before it could go aboard. Instead, Captain Saunder found himself saddled with a bunch of nondescript second-raters. Nevertheless, a planet to support and perpetuate the race had to be found, and he was a man of iron resolution and determined to succeed.But then they encountered in the depths of Space a derelict alien ship, and from this came stark tragedy. Survival now lay through horror, and the most macabre surgery ever conceived, and when this had been performed they were no longer men and women. To the natives of the world they eventually discovered they were gods, yet they were not these either.
